Title: Southampton v Newcastle 15/10/17
Post by: Leo7 on October 08, 2017, 12:09:10 AM
International week bores me, so..

What's the predictions for our trip to St Mary's?

2-1 soton, Fraser Forster to bag a brace

I think it will be 0-0 not a great game to watch. I think we will frustrate them and get a point. I believe we are on Sky again if I am not mistaken? We have been on loads this season. Good for the likes of me but not so good if you are travelling from the N.E. for a 4pm K.O.

I think NUFC would be lucky to escape with a point - Southampton are solid defensively so I don't see Joselu or Perez scoring anything. Lascelles / Clark header on set pieces is the best chance.

Bad record down there of late but they aren't looking great going forward. If we turn up and stifle them we might get something

They have struggled for goals but have home advantage and a good defence. I think Perez and Joselu will start and we will struggle. The only way I see us being competitive against the saints is to start Gayle Shelvey and Merino.

Not a good place for us down St Marys, never confidant with this fixture, going for a very optimistic draw.

1-1

Incidentally, for those predicting a win or for NUFC to score...whom do you expect that to come from?

Not saying anyone is wrong, just wondering - I don't personally see many goals in this team, considering the struggle at Huddersfield, Brighton and even Spurs at home...

No arguments from me. I'd be delighted with a draw. And yes, Perez and Joselu will provide a worry-free afternoon for Southampton defence and if Joselu DOES get a chance it'll end up in Row Z or behind him

Could just cut and paste the same match prediction every week - not a bad thing. We don't look like conceding many and we won't score a hat full. 1-0 Toon

They have a lot of possesion but poor in front of goal whereas we prefer less possession but allow opposition few chances and are accurate in front of goal on counter attack so they are set up just the way we like opposition to play.

http://www.planetfootball.com/quick-reads/ranking-pl-teams-shots-takenfaced-territory-chances-created/

According to stats over last 7 games anyway Southampton will walk straight into Rafas trap.

Or 3-0 southampton....

Shelvey
Merino
Joselu
Ritchie
Lascelles
Atsu

daft post in truth, anyone can score if you create a chance
Title: Re: Southampton v Newcastle 15/10/17
Post by: OmegaprimeVKM on October 15, 2017, 09:06:37 AM

Shelvey - not scored this season
Merino - not scored for newcastle
Joselu - 1 actual goal so far for NUFC after playing as no.9 for 6 league games...obviously he's just started his career here but Shola and Papiss had better goal to game ratios
Ritchie- not scored this season
Lascelles - expect this is the best chance but after putting 2 away this season i reckon teams will be ready for defending corners better
Atsu - 1 goal this season but was a good 'un...I hear he's an injury risk today?

We have played 7 games & scored in 4 of them so more likely to score than not
Fair enough it?s 1 in 3 away from home

By the way Southampton have played 5 at home (including cup) this year and scored in 1 of them where they played against 10 men - so could easily ask same questions of them
Oh and they also failed to score in their last 5 home league games last season -so that?s 1 game out of 10 they have scored in

Mitro doesnt make the bench either. Rafa certainly plays a boring brand of football, but what he sees in Perez and Joselu stuns me. Im sure its because they are spanish. Rafa comes in and we have 5 Spaniards in the squad today. A 3rd of our team today are spanish

Great start and really deserved that lead but have sat back a bit too much, the front 2 arent offering enough ( even though Perez is running his arse off). Elliot's kicking has put us under pressure a couple of times and he flapped at a corner

Need to calm down in the second half, would like to see Merino for Perez and Gayle for Joselu early but cant see Rafa doing it

that's the first bit right. Joselu has done nothing in the last hour. Miro must be really in the bad books.  Why do we see the same players trying to shoot and mess up every time. Just wasteful.and there's the second bit right. Sensible.

We've come a long way when we're disappointed with a draw at Southampton. We could have won this.  Our forwards are poor and don't look like scoring. Ashley to blame for this situation yet again.

would have took it before the game but feels like 2 points dropped at the minute

Lejeune moment of madness after having a really solid game cost us

Criticised Joselu earlier but when Gayle came on you realised he was actually doing something, Gayle was so lazy not putting any pressure on the cb's or dm for Southampton, just doesn't seem interested

Perez goal a sign that hardwork pays off at times, he deserved it as even his harshest critics have to give him an A for effort

anyone else not confident in Fat Rob in goal ? kicking was poor, flapped at a corner and I may be being harsh but he looked arthritic going down for their first

Back 4 pretty solid other than a few rash moments, shelvey and Hayden decent and Merino a class act when he came on

Our problem is up front at the minute, I'm not his biggest fan but surely we have to give Mitro a go? he has plenty of experience with Perez and even though he isn't clinical Joselu looks a bit shot and could maybe do with a game off the bench to take a bit pressure off and after watching Gayle today he couldn't work less

One final thing have Norwich sent us the wrong Murphy ? as the lad who has came to us just doesn't look good at all, especially when you compare to the lad who played against us for Norwich last year

you said it, consistently hard working and causing defenders all kinds of problems every week, i thought hayden was a contender too mind cracking goal, worked hard really got stuck in and showed he doesn't like being left out of the side and is prepared to battle for his place....i like that.

'anyone else not confident in Fat Rob in goal ? kicking was poor, flapped at a corner and I may be being harsh but he looked arthritic going down for their first'

I text my son i thought he went down like a felled tree. Similar to the stoke goal a few weeks back. Maybe it is harsh but add this together with his poor kicking and coming for the ball and getting nowhere near it all adds up to a less than great game. 4/10.

Agree that. His fitnes looks poor to me.

I do hope Mitro and Rafa finds understanding with each others. Altough im not Mitros biggest fan, I would welcome him instead of Gayle, whos head isnt with the team.

Perez was much better, ritchie was tireless, shelvey my man of the match ,composed and assured.

Gayle was hopeless and shows the selfish work Jockelu does, another great team performance, and those giving the keeper stick are clueless and a bit thick .

Gayle did f**k all but Joselu was just as bad - he hardly closed ball down Perez as much as I dislike him did most the closing down of their defence

I have to agree with others as much as I don?t rate mitro as lone striker I think we need to give him a chance as other 2 options can?t play that role either

Not thick mate just observant.  So you think his kicking was good and him flapping at a cross was confidence inspiring?
I did say; maybe it's a bit harsh to point these things out but he did go down like a felled tree and I also thought his position was wrong as well. There was also a situation where he came to head the ball when all he had to do was stay in his box and catch the ball. Maybe, it's hard to be a keeper but I didn't think he had a great game. It's all about opinions and because mine differs from yours it doesn't make you thick or cluelss. It would be rude to say that, don't you think? ☺

It's all about opinions and because mine differs from yours it doesn't make you thick or cluelss. It would be rude to say that, don't you think? ☺

Ignore him, he's as red and white as they come. The points you made are spot on and totally fair

Cracking performance. Newcastle looked solid throughout and defended well all game.

Lejeurne had a blinder bar the penalty and I'm sure he will bounce back quick enough from it. He was unlucky not to win it for us towards the end of the match. Shelvey was brilliant today and dominated the midfield with Hayden. Ritchie looked a threat throughout to.

Yedlin was fortunate not to be shown a 2nd yellow as it was a definite yellow card challenge. Apart from that the ref had a good game for both sides. I thought some of Elliots kicking was poor but he did ok.

Apart from the goal and yes he did work hard but Perez offered very little he was lightweight and he didn't use the ball that well.

Good away performance though and I'm delighted with how well we have started back in the Premier league its a good solid start and we look well placed to consolidate in our first season back in the Premier league we look like a good solid midtable side. Happy days  :)

Did anyone note how quick Perez was to the ball for when he scored? He needs to move like that more often!

It was a good finish from that angle I thought.

It makes a change as he's normally slow as f**k and a second behind play which is why he keeps getting caught in possession each and every game.

Good point though today. Rafa has us very well organised and very hard to beat. Everyone knows their job and is willing to work for the team.

Just imagine what sort of team we could have had if the fat clown had backed Rafa with some money? A top striker and a number 10 and we'd be in a lot better shape.

Elliot has problems when kicking with his right foot and is uncertain when coming out for the ball. How come our goalkeeping coach doesn't notice this?  Manquillo is not an ideal left back. If you got 10 marks every game just for running and stamina Perez would score a 10. However it does help if you take the ball with you. Can anyone confirm that Joselu and Gayle actually train with the first team?

A point away at Southampton. Should not grumble really. Excellent team performance - again. Should have taken the 3 points, terrible penalty to give away. Other than that, they hardly had a sniff.

Rafa looks happy in the interviews. That's the main thing.

Need to beat Palace and increase the gap with the bottom teams. 29 points to go

Great point yesterday and could have won it silly penalty to give away was the only fault. We are playing every game with passion and hard grit.re elliot we have two fantastic goalkeepers him and darlow most clubs in the league dont have 1.

Played well generally, Long bought that pen, when we had the ball we played some canny football, the passing was decent, can't complain really. Although would like to see Mitro and Perez against Palace.
