Title: NEWCASTLE V SWANSEA MATCH THREAD
Post by: peachy on January 11, 2018, 05:27:44 PM
Saturday, 13th January, 2018.
Kick off 3pm. at St. James' Park.

Swansea have only won twice away from home this season beating Palace and Watford, Abrahams has flopped somewhat only 4 goals so far this season, (one more than our Jokelu ofcourse) and so they find themselves at the foot of the table with 16 points from 22 games, nonetheless this game can be seen as a six-pointer with the difference between 1tth and 20th place in the premiership only being 8 points.

Lascelles has been voted FUN88's player of the month for December, the third time he has won it so far this season and hopefully he will be ok to start against Swansea, he has said on twitter after the Luton match that he was brought off only as a precautionary measure, although the FPL have him down as 75% chance of playing I think he will be in the team, so it could look something like this:-

DARLOW

YEDLIN LASCELLES CLARK DUMMETT

MERINO SHELVEY

RITCHIE PEREZ ATSU

GAYLE

score prediction: 2-0

Howay the Lads

Definitely the starting 11 is like to see - press them high dont let them settle and we will win this

I think we will win this 3-1 is my prediction. No idea why I just fancy us to beat them simple as that. We should be high on confidence but this is NUFC so anything could happen. I?m still sticking with that score line though.

Massive game this for both clubs, not just a '6 pointer' , but a win would really anchor Swansea in the relegation spot . Also the arse end of the division are mainly playing each other so this weekend could really seperate the wheat from the chaff

A disappointing 0-0 I think.

Another tight affair. They have been turned over twice (City,Liverpool). Then, mostly one goal defeats which is pretty much the story for the bottom 10 teams.

In the stadium we need to do our part. Stay patient and not get on the lads case if it is 0-0 at HT, or worse if we go behind. We need every point. A win would put us 9 points ahead of them and pretty much finish them. A draw would be disappointing but not a disaster.

A nervy 1-0 for the Toon

swansea are bottom for a reason, theyve scored less goals than any other club, 13 goals from 22 games should make Rafa confident enough to attack these from the start get plenty of bodies in their box and we will score, we've not won a league match at home since Oct 21st and if he's gonna take risks at any time in the season it has to be this match, they are so impotent in attack that we should not be fearing them at all.

Carlos Carvalhal knows how to play Benitez and has beaten NUFC with weaker squads, just as an FYI. It's like Fer's bound to be key in the critical moments after having that red rescinded.

The much (and rightly) maligned Joselu gets a great equalizer. One goal every 10 ain't good enough though and that applies to all our forwards. Still. If we win this I'll be a little less despondent

Awful awful awful. Ashley 90% to blame, but rafas signings are as bad as Carrs worse
Swansea believe they can do what they did in their last away - pull off an undeserved win in time added on- and they nearly did. We need midfield of quality not just forwards

Yep a disappointing result again at home and with 3 of the sides around us winning including Palace and West Ham that will drop us a couple of places. It?s becoming painful at home now.

I wish people woukd stop blaing Rafa for the signings. He gives a list of players, Ashley or his rep puts it in the bin, Rafa gets who he's told. Ha has no say.

Anyway its another point toward safety. Like I said its going to be tough, its going to be ugly but I feel we'll survive.

How do you know this?
Joselu is his signing
Gamez
Lejeune
Selz
Manquilo

they're all his signing, don't even contemplate getting into a debate with him about that. Rafa's signings, the majority of them, have been woeful. But that is another debate. Rafa isn't being targetted here, it's Ashley, and the fact we're in the window, and nothing is happening. Its as clear as day we need investment, and its not coming.

we look doomed, but looks like it will be touch and go until the last day. just suck it up and see what happens. nothing we can do about it

Plenty of people who are ITK at the club have made it publicaly known how the transfers work. I'll believe them over Ashley and co every time.

A draw means we have to find the point from elsewhere that we did not anticipate, no brainer, but who?

Few good chances today and squandered! Even Gayle is not the answer for us!

Game should of been over by the half hour - you can?t miss chances like that in this league unfortunately

Few players way under performed today - Ritchie is offering very little at the minute and doesn?t warrant a place - Atsu looked f***ed just didn?t seem to have his usual pace & energy - Gayle missed chances he should finish

Still plenty of games to go and it?s so tight down there - for me they are going down they were awful & I still fancy us to finish above 2 of West Brom, Stoke, Brighton & Huddersfield - EDIT & Bournemouth forgot about them

I tend to agree we still have to play 4 of those sides 3 at home unfortunately as our away form seems to be better. I am guessing you think Swansea are already nailed on to go down. Another 2 sides still in the mix are Southampton and Watford and yes we still have to play them both as well. Should be tense if nothing else!

Was at the game today. No idea what bbc sport and that are on about, but we absolutely battered them and missed a hatful of chances and they counter attacked and had one cleared off the line in the 92nd minute which was as close as they got. Should have been 4-0. f**k the f***ing BBC

We were the better team a draw was the least we deserved and i can only make a case for Swansea deserving anything due to the penalty shout and being the away team.

on Rafa's signings: ffs man do you think he'd have bought any of the bad ones if he had reasonable backing from the owner? He knows our keepers aren't good enough but is he allowed to bring a modestly priced veteran in? No. Its not his choice to stick with Darlow and Eliott nor is it by his choice any of those bad buys are here. It was either them, something cheaper and worse or nothing.

agree that Ritchie is completely off the boil, not even open play but his deliveries are down and if we have to sell someone to bring anybody in then I'd far rather it be him than Shelvey.

1 more point , i thought we played well in the first half and battered them, they were awful, easily the worst team ive seen this season.
we just never got going in the second half, i thought Diame had a good game and i agree about Ritchie who couldnt get forward for covering the wide man of swansea the whole game, Gayle should have had 2  :nonono:  thats the problem our finishing is crap.

i stand by my claim Shelvey looks like he's sulking and wants away, he looks miserable on the pitch and is playing like it.Swansea were there for the taking, so 2 points dropped , we cant string a few wins together.Crowd were quiet today, and still no sign of reinforcements, no sign of ashley, no sign of change  :nonono:

Shelvey only seemed to turn up for about 15 minutes after they scored when he started to put his foot in and played the ball firward early.
He sits way too deep to influence the game - he needs to be 10-15 yards further up the pitch all the time but he doesn?t like that as he doesn?t get the time on the ball he does when he?s stood next to the defenders

How the mighty have fallen. I never in the history of the toon would I have thought i?d see  the day when we?d settle for 4th bottom. From the KK entertainers to this, who would have thought?  Rafa is trying to keep us in the PL with two hands tied behind his back. The man should be given the freedom of the city not criticism.

Two points dropped. The way the game went, with chances missed, it looked like we were going to be suckered and leave with nothing. That would have been grim. The team kept at it and at least got a point.

I thought that the crowd was excellent. Stayed behind the lads all game even went we went behind. It would have been easy to get frustrated with the missed chances, but the atmosphere stayed positive and never got toxic. The Strawberry corner were superb.

We are going to need that support as this fight is going to go right to the wire. It's not rocket science. We severely lack any forward quality. The team has fight and workrate. It is well organised and reasonable in defence (GK is an issue). We have Championship level forwards.

The tactics were not negative. They were not gung ho, but we forced the game, created chances and kept it very tight at our end. We had four clear chances. For two of these we did not even hit the target. Then another where Atsu had to simply play in Shelvey for a one on one. Swansea get a chance out of a simple cross into the box and score with their first chance - he took two go's at it after Darlow parries it straight back to him.

It is foolish to think that any help is coming. Take as much beer as necessary to stay positive and behind the lads. Strap in as it's going to be very close

Frustrating, that's the "F" word I would use to describe that performance, we have so many players who are frustrating to watch, Atsu being the main one, but also Yedlin, Shelvey, Ritchie and Diame.

Atsu first half skinned the leftback and got a good cross over that Dummett sliced over the bar, he also had a brilliant run at the heart of their defence which gave us a free-kick on the edge of the box, now this lad is deeply religious, his twatterfeed consists mainly of quotes from the bible, one recently read "fear is the imagination we create in our minds", that could be just trying to reassure himself because he definitely has a fear of trying to skin defenders which in truth he is more than capable of doing much more often than he does, and clearly he embraces a quote from the gospel of Matthew "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth" because he needs to grow a set and tell Shelvey to f**k off and demand to take that free-kick seen as he created it, and should have told Ritchie the same second half, he needs to learn a quote from the geordie bible "shy bairns get nowt".

Perez though, f***ing hell that run he had on the edge of the box, I don't know if they showed it on MOTD, where he did the old Beardsley shimmy, the hip swivel and step over combination then crossed for Gayle to head wide. round of applause and I actually said outloud "thas f***ing vintage Beardsley that mind" and this old twit in front turned and looked, if you can remember the way the guy from airplane looks at Ted Striker when he asks him to pinch him to make sure he's not dreaming?,..well that's the look i got, but Perez played well today one of the best players, Dummett was good also, nowt flash just steady away,

Clark to me is a nervous wreck, now Lascelles is a great leader as has been said and we've established that, he can organise, he can lead by example, and as he said in his Daily Mail article this week he doesn't care less if he upsets his team-mates, he does whats best for the team which is all well and good, BUT I don't think that Lascelles is necessarily a "calming" influence on the defence, whcih is why we still have these keystone kops moments sometimes,....and therefore that is why I reckon it will be a big mistake getting shot of Mbemba, because he is the only CB we have who is calm and composed under pressure, Clark has loads of passion and commitment but always looks totally stressed, Lejeune always seems far too relaxed to the extent of appearing half asleep, like someone needs to grab him by the shoulders and give him a good shake to wake him up, and Lascelles today had a few moments himself where he was less than decisive, so for me I would have Lascelles and Mbemba at CB every day of the week, but Raf knows best.

Finally Bony's chance what was he thinking?, Darlows out of the picture, Lascelles and Yedlin on the goal line, the shot had to be hit head height, it was a no-brainer, at least force one of the defenders to either head it or handball it...DOH!!
Title: Re: NEWCASTLE V SWANSEA MATCH THREAD
Post by: ohsholaameobi on January 14, 2018, 12:03:19 PM
Perez was really good again though he could've scored with than one he went with his right rather than his left. Atsu was canny. Shelvey played well first half. Dummett had an excellent game.

Yedlin was horrendous defensively time and again let the crosses come in. Ritchie was anonymous and his free kicks were dire. Gayle missed a sitter and finishing was wayward.

Should've buried them first half but point was probably fair by the end. I cannit really blame Rafa for missed chances but we did seem to sit back and concede possession 2nd half.

A lot of our games are so tight and nearly, that it stands to reason what an extra bit .of quality and a reasonable spend by the owner would have got us a handful of extra points and would get us another handful of points before the season is out.

of course we wont address it
