Swansea v Newcastle
« on: September 06, 2017, 09:17:26 AM »
Liberty Stadium, Sunday, 10th September 2017. Kick off 4pm.

No Sigurdson to dictate the play for them and always a threat from set-pieces, he will be a huge miss in their midfield, ?11m replacement Mesa has so far played the full 90 at MK Dons, 67 mins against Manutd and an unused sub v Southampton and Palace, so not sure what the issue is there, he is renowned as a good passer and strong tackler, so we will have to wait and see if Clement gives him a start if we start the game with a young midfield with Hayden and Merino. Also both young Abrahams (who I really wished we had signed up) and Ayew have scored in their last two games and are said to have a good understanding. I do hope Rafa learnt his lesson at 'uddersfield, no negative containment sh*te please, don't leave the striker isolated, get more players forwards and take a few risks instead of this over-cautious approach.........  Dummett is still injured, Lejeune and Yedlin are both fit and could be on the bench, Shelveys back and should be on the bench but will probably start but I'm going with Merino cos he's done well, so possible team is: (unless anyone knows different)

Elliot

Manquillo, Lascelles,  Clark,   Mbemba

Hayden Merino

Ritchie   Perez    Atsu

Joselu.

Prediction: 1-2

I'd expect lejeune to come straight back in & hope he does in place of lascelles

I wouldn't be surprised to see him being shelvey back in place of merino but really hope he doesn't

Edit:/ just read mbemba went off injured yesterday

I reckon a draw would be the best the team can hope for. Abraham to score 1 or 2.

Reports are he's out for a month - lucky we bought alll those defensive reinforcements

Only choices I think he will look at is:-
Clark to LB with lejeune & lascelles CB
Manquillo over to LB with Yedlin back in at RB

Other options are for change of formation but rafa won't do that.
Could go 3 CBs - Clark, lascelles, lejuene
Wing backs - manquillo or yedlin with Ritchie other side as think he could do that role
3 in CM shelvey, merino & Hayden
Then 2 up top

Well according to that anti Newcastle fan Merson, it's a 2-0 win for Swansea. I honestly hope Newcastle get something out of this not just because i love the TOON but to wipe that smug grin off his face!!!

Result :?

Not sure he will throw Lejune and Yedlin both back into starting 11 when they are short of match practice.

The Mbemba injury as just highlighted the c*** ups in the window! Could Colback not do a job at left back? Leave the remaining 3 from the West Ham game? Manquillo Lascelles and Clark? Least he would add a bit of balance being left footed.

Is there any reason we aren't looking for a full back who are out of contract? There are a couple of decent options about, with experience and could be worth a punt on?

Hope that Merino keeps his place, kid looks a class act, definitely agree we need to go into it with the pressing mentality like the West Ham game and not the sit back and counter like the Spurs/Hudds games.

Hoping we catch them cold, 2-0 win Toon !!

Very decent looking team in my view. And with the option to play two upfront we shouldn't be short of goals. I'd prefer Joselu and Gayle.
